Kiwanis Empowers Youth

Service since 1922

The Kiwanis Club of Staunton was chartered in 1922 and has proudly served the youth in the Staunton area for 100 years. We are your neighbors, and our members reflect a wide mix of ages, occupations, backgrounds, and interests. We are all passionate about making our community and the world a better place for children so they can thrive. We are devoted to serving the children in our local community through a wide range of service projects. Our club is also part of Kiwanis International, a global organization that serves children throughout the world.

Opening of the 44th annual Model General Assembly sponsored by the Kiwanis Club of Staunton. Over 170 students from Waynesboro, Staunton, and Augusta County come together each year for two days to act as members of the Virginia Senate and House of Delegates. Former State Delegate Dickie Bell addresses the students as Anna Brule, Speaker of the House, listens.

Club Projects

Opening day of the 2019 Babe Ruth Baseball season at Gypsy Hill Park in Staunton.

Our club’s signature project is the Staunton Babe Ruth Baseball program. Our members have helped organize and run this project since 1947. Over 250 kids each year have enjoyed learning skills, playing games, and experiencing teamwork. We partner with the City of Staunton Parks and Recreation Department, and we couldn’t do it without the volunteers who coach and parents who help in the concession stand.

The Kiwanis Club of Staunton was the principal sponsor for the “Sunday in Staunton” Disc Golf Tournament at Montgomery Hall Park on October 6, 2019. The tournament was played on the course our Club helped build with the city in 2005. Updated with new tee boxes in 2020, the course is one of the best in Virginia and offers a number of very challenging holes.

Staunton Christmas Parade

Staunton Kiwanis Club marshals the annual Christmas parade. Working with the Staunton Downtown Development Association, we oversee the organization of the floats, marching bands, horses, antique cars, firetrucks, motorcycle clubs, city council members, and last, but not least, Santa Claus. Club members direct float participants to their designated starting locations and help direct traffic. Supporting the parade brings out the child in all of us.

Past President Jennifer Buchanan and club member Jason Hand check the order of entries before the start of the Staunton Christmas Parade in 2019.
